Summer Skincare Routine

This post is sponsored by Nature’s Way. I’m excited to be partnering with the brand to celebrate its 50th birthday! Since 1969, Nature’s Way has been helping people live their best lives through the gifts of nature.

Skin is an incredible indicator of what's going on in our bodies. Chinese medicine doctors examine the tongue for signs of what's going on in the body, and as a layperson we can also really see what's going on inside (at least generally) based on what our skin looks like. It's more important than ever to take care of our skin, from the inside out, starting with nutrition and supplements and finishing the proverbial cake off with nourishing topicals.

This summer, the three products I'm hooked on are Nature's Way Vitamin D3Hydraplenish-C Serum, andCaliflora Calendula Gel. With a child to impress upon, my baby-oil-baking-in-the-sun-days are o-v-e-r. I'm all about skin products and supplements made from nature that heal me from the inside out. And yes, I actually think that white zinc look on the beach is cool now. Taking good care of your Earth Suit requires a certain level of self-respect, and I can get down with someone who respects themselves enough to take care of their body.

Here's why I love the aforementioned products...but first, can we please all agree that barriers (large-brimmed hats!) against the sun are the most important skincare practice for everyone in the family?

First up, I take Vitamin D3 all year long – yes even in the summer! It’s a daily essential for me, so I make sure to pack it with me when I travel. Make sure to take this supplement with the highest fat meal of the day, since it’s a fat soluble vitamin.

Next up. I've been using Hydraplenish-C Serum morning and night on my freshly washed skin. This serum is great to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and lighten skin. It's the only topical I've found I can use to placate my postpartum melasma while I'm still nursing.** And while I'm on the topic of nursing, does any other mama out there feel like nursing has stripped some of the fat out of their face? Is that just me? In any case, Hydraplenish is adding the plump back in a safe, pain-free way.

Even as a minimalist traveler, I packed Califlora Calendula Gel in my travel kit for this summer, as its meant to help soothe, cool and relieve pain from sunburn, minor burns, windburn and chapped or irritated skin.†† Kind of a no-brainer for a bathing suit kind of vacation!

Fun summer skin fact: you can mix oatmeal with a small bit of water, until it's gelatinous, and treat sea lice irritations naturally!

Hoping you're all having a relaxing summer and practicing all these amazing safe skincare tips! Lots of love and fun in the sun to you and your family!

**If you're pregnant or nursing, please talk to your doctor before adding in any supplements or topicals.
